di.me welcomes its first user

August, 1st, 2013.- The European project di.me supported under the VII Framework Program has recently reached its 30th month of development, and has the honor of welcoming its first user.

More than two years ago, the di.me consortium members realized that the use of personal information for private and business life is a major trend in our increasingly information-oriented society. People have begun to share information to personal and business contacts, and disclosing more and more private data. This creates value for users, like enhancing social contacts or personalising services and products, but compromised their privacy, resulting in a user’s loss of control over their personal data.

According to this trend, di.me researchers started to investigate on a technology that would enable the user to share personal data in a controlled, trustworthy, and intelligent way.

There have been many achievements during this almost 3 years of work, mainly focused on four key areas: decentralized social networks, secure identity management, social networks synchronization and trust management and recommendations.

Di.me created a new paradigm for social network development. Now it is time to validate the outcomes. For that purpose, the di.me consortium has made available to some experienced users a trial which is aimed at proving that this new paradigm is feasible.

The invited users had the option of running their own personal server in the di.me network or just get a free user account on the test servers, which the project partners has provided for scientific evaluation. Now the earliest di.me network counts on the first users and the number of users is increasing day by day. The trial will soon be available publically to any interested people.
